Woke up early this morning to visit the Gamblin color house and got to watch their master paintmakers mix batches of ink and paint. I’ve never seen so much ink before; the vats hold up to 5 gallons each! I kept resisting the urge to plunge my hands elbow-deep into the barrels. Watching the ink fold through the press is a strangely hypnotic experience, so thank you to the friendly Gamblin crew for not minding my gawking. To learn more about mixing ink and paint read through Gamblin’s informative studio notes.
West Texas born and raised, currently living in Portland, Oregon. I'm interested in narrative art, patterns & texture and "Memento Mori". I tend to blog/reblog about printmaking, bookmaking and papermaking. You'll also see a healthy dose of color, color history and ink.
