I’ve been watching a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Adventure Time lately and felt like making Monsters of Joyland. Here’s the first three, I’ll keep drawing one a day ‘till the handmade paper runs out.
Grinders: Grinders hide in thornberry bushes and pop out to snatch passerbys. The sloshing of their gut hair alarms travelers of the Grinders’ presence and thus they are easily avoided. If caught, Grinders can swallow a victim whole, providing its daily meal and a thicker head of hair.
Vinegar and The Smiler: Vinegar fancies herself an ophiologist but usually (accidentally) kills her pet snakes within the first week. She collects their skulls on her dress as a reminder of their fleeting time together. She’s had The Smiler, a rare uni-horned viper, for three weeks.
Mimics: Mimics are coastal elves who enjoy deep-sea treasure hunting and fishing. Because they are naturally poor swimmers, they wear Chinook Salmon skin as aquatic aid coats. They manipulate their new form with magical, golden fishing line.
